Teaching Assistant and Student Tutor
I have loved all my nutrition courses at Teachers College, especially my Advanced Nutrition and Medical Nutrition Therapy courses. It is fascinating to learn about the complex interactions of macro- and micro-nutrients involved in metabolism, homeostasis, and pathophysiology, the connection between deficiencies and toxicities and clinical manifestations, and the prevention and management of clinical conditions through diet. I was intellectually challenged by the material, enhancing my critical thinking, analytic ability, and passion for therapeutic nutrition intervention.
I was fortunate to elevate my knowledge in becoming a teaching assistant for the micronutrients metabolism course. Alongside solidifying the knowledge I had acquired the previous year, I discovered my pleasure for teaching and mentoring students. I worked closely with the professor and students throughout the semester, holding study and tutoring sessions, creating and evaluating case studies, and managing hybrid class sessions held simultaneously in-person and over Zoom.
After this experience, I see myself working in academia at some point down the line. I am happy to continue my role in course assisting this year - I could not let the job go just yet!
