HealthNuts Committee

The HealthNuts has fostered some of my most genuine and beloved connections among students, alumni, and faculty at Teachers College. My time in graduate school has been so special, all thanks to this group right here!

Student Welcome Event - Fall 2021

I am fortunate to serve as the leader of the “HealthNuts” a student-led organization in the Nutrition Program at Teachers College. The mission of the club is to facilitate more community in the program through social, networking, and career development events for students, alumni, and faculty. Last year, I served as a committee member and loved the experience of planning events. I co-planned a screening and discussion of “Gather” — a documentary about the growing movement of Indigenous people and their descendants to take back their cultural identities through food sovereignty—and an end-of-the year student outdoor picnic. We also put together a virtual cooking night where students prepared pasta salad! Picnic and cooking night pictures below:

I loved my role on the committee so much that I transitioned to the committee leader for this school year. So far, we have planned some wonderful events, including a new student welcome event and a foraging tour in Central Park with '“Wildman” Steve Brill to learn about common edible plants that grow in here in NYC. I am so grateful all the enthusiasm, creativity, and organization the committee brings.

I look forward to this semester’s events! We are in the midst of planning the annual alumni career panel and a book club night with Chloe Sorvino, the author of a new book release, Raw Deal.
