Diet, Microbiome, & Immunity Presentation
I spent my last year at Villanova University performing individual research on the intersection among diet, movement, and the gut microbiome in humans. When the Covid-19 pandemic struck in March 2020, I shifted my research focus towards gut microbiome and immune system relations, and how Covid-19, diet, and lifestyle modalities may influence the microbiome-immune connection. At the time, it was found that the composition of microbes in our bodies can predict Covid-19 symptom severity. However, we may not be doomed by chance! Through my research, I came to understand that the tiny microbes residing in our bodies can change — we can alter to the balance to have more “good” guys in our gut than “bad” guys through lifestyle factors such as diet, exercise, and stress reduction, which can support our immunity. I compiled my findings in a presentation to educate the biology department on how the following lifestyle factors can help support our health during the Covid-19 pandemic:
Plant Strong Diet
Daily Movement
Stress Reduction Techniques
